- Picture It - “Honey… Here’s Some Bread”!

Ingredients:
- 125g plain flour
- 350g whole wheat flour
- 1 heaped teaspoon of bread soda
- 30g oats
- 25g margarine
- 1 egg
- Some fresh milk
Method:
Preheat the oven to 220 degrees Celsius. While it’s heating, do the following.
Lightly grease a loaf tin with melted margarine.
Sieve the flour, bread soda and salt into a large bowl. Ensure they all get mixed together.
Add the whole wheat flour and oats mixing thoroughly. Grab handfuls and let it fall through your fingers - like when you were a kid on the beach!
Stick in the margarine and repeat the previous step - kid on the beach, but now a sticky beach! Ew.
Beat the egg and add enough milk to bring it towards 3/4 of a pint.
Make a well in the middle of the of the flour etc. in the bowl and pour in the milk & egg. Mix it quickly with a fork. You now have dough.
Dust a work surface with flour and throw the dough on it. Dust the dough with flour & knead gently.
Put the dough in the greased loaf tin and cut a line down the middle. This is for when the bread rises.
Put the bread in the preheated oven and leave it for about 35 - 40 minutes.
Take it out of the oven and turn it upside down. Gently tap the base of the bread and listen. If it sounds hollow - it’s cooked, if not - needs more baking. Put it back in for 5 mins.
Leave it to cool before cutting… well… just have one or two slices if you really want! ![]()
